Preparation for CILS B1 and B2 depends on your current level of Italian and the intensity of your study sessions. Typically, it takes around 3–4 months of regular study to move from level A2 to B1. Moving from B1 to B2 may take anywhere from 4 to 6 months with regular and intensive study. To apply for Italian citizenship, you need a B1-level certificate in Italian from accredited centers recognized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of the Interior of Italy. Accepted certificates include CILS, CELI, PLIDA, or It.
The CILS exams are held at accredited centres, Italian cultural institutes, language schools, and universities worldwide. You can also take the exam in the United Kingdom and nearby countries such as Ireland and France. The exam fee varies depending on the exam centre and country. On average, the CILS B1 exam costs around 100–125 euros, while the CILS B2 exam costs approximately 135–150 euros.
